Lehi, Utah — July 24, 2025
Promise2Live’s July Mental Health Town Hall took a powerful turn by handing the mic to the youth. For the first time, young people shared openly about the mental health challenges they face and what they need from parents, educators, and leaders. Their stories were raw, honest, and eye-opening.
Courageous Conversations
The event began with Executive Coach Crawford Cragun sharing the emotional story of his daughter’s struggle with suicide. “She promised herself 24 hours and she did it every day. Fifteen years later, she’s alive and expecting her first child.” Crawford emphasized the power of making a promise and holding on through the hardest days.
This month’s event was sponsored by Alexis Nelson of Silicon Slopes IP and Joel Wright of Wright Law Group. Both are actively involved in a national lawsuit on behalf of families against major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat, and TikTok. These companies are facing legal action for allegedly targeting vulnerable youth and contributing to issues such as eating disorders, self-harm, anxiety, and suicide. Details on who may qualify for this legal action were shared during the event.

Insights from Dr. Dave Morgan
Dr. Dave Morgan, Mental Health Awareness Director at Silicon Slopes, shared practical ways to respond when a young person mentions suicide:
- Don’t immediately try to fix the problem. Just listen.
- Avoid judgment and respond with compassion and care.
- Take it seriously. If they speak up, it likely took weeks or months to build the courage.
Youth Voices and Real Talk
A youth panel featuring Lincoln Bailey, Izzy Dallin, Laynie Anderson, and Kaden Jenson answered audience questions and shared personal experiences. They offered powerful advice to parents about how to create safer spaces to talk about suicide and mental health at home.
Jodi Parker from the Utah State Board of Education spoke about how today’s challenges are different from those of past generations. She outlined common risk factors and protective factors and encouraged attendees to build connections, reduce isolation, and offer consistent support.
Hope and Urgency from Elysia Butler
Elysia Butler, founder of Hope Hero Foundation, shared heartbreaking statistics. According to the latest CDC data, suicide rates among U.S. youth ages 10–24 climbed from 6.8 to 11.0 per 100,000—a rise of approximately 62% from 2007 to 2021. In 2023, 3 million high school students considered suicide. One hospital in Weber County sees more than 1,000 youth per month for suicide-related crises. That’s over 33 kids a day in a single county who feel like they don’t want to exist.
Elysia offered five key tools to help build resilience:
- Start mornings with purpose
- Set clear goals in all areas of life
- Build positive relationships
- Take care of your body and nutrition
- Laugh and enjoy life
Lunch for the event was generously sponsored by JuJu Blankets. As a special gift, attendees will be entered into a drawing to win a JuJu Blanket at next month’s event.
