Vineyard, Utah – July 28, 2025
Crew, a home services platform designed for short-term rental (STR) owners, has raised $3 million in seed funding to accelerate its expansion across the U.S. The round was led by RET Ventures (Park City, UT), with participation from Tandem Ventures. (Draper, UT), Element Ventures (Provo, UT), Forever 6 (Mesa, AZ), and Convoi Ventures (Orem, UT).
Important clarification: This company should not be confused with the fintech startup also named Crew (trycrew.com), based in Lehi, Utah. That company is a separate entity focused on family banking tools. It raised a $2.5 million pre-seed round earlier this year, as covered by TechBuzz News.
Founded in 2024 by Arizona-based STR operator Cameron Lam, Crew started as a simple solution to a frustrating problem: trash removal for high-turnover rental properties. Today, it’s evolving into a full-stack home services marketplace, offering hosts access to on-demand labor for tasks like cleaning, maintenance, and waste removal—blending gig flexibility with professional-grade standards.
Lam stated in a LinkedIn post the idea for Crew came directly from personal pain points as an STR operator: “Having hosted 30,000 guests in my personal properties, one of the most consistent operational headaches was simply getting the trash to the curb and dealing with overflow.”
After retiring at age 33, Lam spent over a year looking for his next venture. “I knew I needed to start something,” he said. “It took me a couple of years to figure out what that was.”
He ultimately teamed up with longtime friends Jordan Garn and Travis Zappia to launch Crew. “We’ve gained some amazing traction so far,” Lam said. “I couldn’t ask for better people to build this with.”
Lam also credited key mentors in his early startup journey: “Special shoutout to Colin Gardiner for training a first-time founder newbie like me on how to raise capital,” and to “Trent Mano, Jared Rodman, and the Convoi team for convincing us our product was ready to scale.”
Since launching with just 100 properties in September 2024, the company has expanded to thousands of listings in 125 cities across 20 major metro areas, including Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Salt Lake City, and Park City.
Although Lam’s personal STR background is in Arizona, Crew’s headquarters is now in Vineyard, Utah, positioning it near emerging tech talent and central to its multi-state service footprint.
The founding team includes Jordan Garn, Co-founder and CTO, who previously co-founded Nectar HR, and Travis Zappia, COO, who led operational teams of over 1,200 at Walmart.
Investor confidence in the team is strong. “Crew’s traction across multiple markets—combined with their tech-first approach to labor coordination—convinced us they’re building something durable,” said John Helm, Partner at RET Ventures. “We see significant potential for Crew to extend its services beyond STRs into multifamily and other real estate verticals.”
With its new funding, Crew plans to expand into a full-service marketplace, enabling STR owners to book vetted cleaners, handymen, landscapers, and other home professionals directly through its app.
As the short-term rental industry continues to mature, Crew aims to become the infrastructure layer for hosts looking to scale efficiently. “Our mission is to remove the friction from property operations,” said Lam, “so owners can grow without getting bogged down in the day-to-day.”
Crew is a tech-enabled home services platform designed for short-term rental owners. Based in Vineyard, Utah, it offers scalable solutions for recurring property needs such as trash pickup, cleaning, and maintenance across 125+ cities. As noted above, a separate fintech startup also named Crew, based in Lehi, Utah, focuses on family banking tools and is not affiliated with the STR-focused Crew described above.
