Universal Technical Institute (UTI), a publicly traded workforce-training company based in Phoenix, AZ that operates technical and healthcare programs nationwide, has announced plans to open its first Utah campus in 2027. The move brings one of the country’s largest skilled-trades education providers into a market that continues to face shortages in aviation, advanced manufacturing, HVAC, welding, automation, and related fields.
The 113,000-square-foot facility—UTI-Salt Lake City—will be located in River Point Plaza at 1553 W 9000 S in West Jordan. At full capacity, the campus is expected to serve more than 3,000 students. Planned programs include Aviation Maintenance Technology, Automotive/Diesel, Electrical & Industrial Maintenance Technology, Electronics & Industrial Technology, Robotics & Automation, HVACR, and Welding.

According to the company, Utah’s fast-growing aerospace, defense, and advanced manufacturing sectors were key factors in selecting the region for expansion. Employers across the Wasatch Front continue to report difficulty filling roles that require hands-on technical training, fueling demand for new education pipelines.
UTI’s Utah campus is part of the company’s second phase of its multi-year “North Star Strategy,” which focuses on growth, diversification, and operational optimization across its two divisions: UTI, which trains students in transportation, skilled trades, and energy, and Concorde Career Colleges, which specializes in healthcare fields. The strategy aims to expand revenue at a roughly 10% CAGR and grow adjusted EBITDA margins to nearly 20% by fiscal 2029.
Phase II builds on successes from the first phase, during which the company nearly tripled its campuses, more than doubled its student population and revenue, and increased profitability fivefold. Under the current strategy, UTI plans to open at least two new campuses annually through 2029, while also launching a minimum of six new programs per year at existing locations, including expanded Concorde offerings. The Utah campus marks a key step in this national expansion effort.
CEO Jerome Grant said the strategy positions UTI to meet America’s critical skilled labor needs while delivering sustainable growth. “We are now prepared to embrace the ambitious agenda we have set for the strategy's second phase, which we believe will significantly increase the company's value through impressive revenue growth and expanded profitability,” he said.

UTI has never had a presence in Utah before, but the company has been expanding aggressively across the country. It now operates 15 UTI campuses in nine states and 17 Concorde healthcare campuses in eight states. The Utah location is one of three newly announced campuses scheduled to open in 2027, alongside Concorde-Houston and Concorde-Atlanta. Recent additions include UTI campuses in San Antonio and Atlanta in 2026 and a specialized Concorde-Heartland Dental collaboration in Fort Myers scheduled to open later this year.
Local workforce observers say the timing aligns with continued growth in Utah’s industrial and energy sectors. The West Jordan campus, with its emphasis on aviation, robotics, and electrical technologies, is expected to serve employers from aerospace manufacturers to logistics companies to large construction and facilities-management firms.
