Videra Health has launched Check on Mom, the first free, confidential, AI-powered postpartum depression screener. The video-based tool gives new mothers a private, stigma-free way to check in on their mental health and share results directly with providers.

Unlike traditional written surveys, Check on Mom uses conversational AI trained for healthcare to capture both spoken language and non-verbal cues. This dual approach helps distinguish between short-term “baby blues” and clinical postpartum depression (PPD), which affects one in eight mothers but often goes undiagnosed.

“Check on Mom is not just a digital tool, it’s a public health resource,” said Loren Larsen, co-founder and CEO of Videra Health. “By showing what’s possible with AI-powered video screeners, we can catch conditions earlier and drive better outcomes—not just in maternal health, but across healthcare.”

How it Works

  • Free and private: No insurance or cost, results stay with the mom.
  • Fast: Takes less than three minutes on nearly any device.
  • Video-based: Moms can speak naturally instead of filling out forms.
  • Clinically validated: Downloadable results can be shared with OBs, midwives, or primary care providers.

Most postpartum depression screenings happen late—if at all—often not until the six-week checkup. Check on Mom lets women screen themselves whenever they’re ready, providing immediate, confidential results without waiting for formal follow-up.

The tool also highlights Videra’s broader mission: leveraging conversational AI and video analysis for condition-specific screening at scale. The company has already developed AI screeners for depression, anxiety, trauma, and, most recently, tardive dyskinesia through its TDScreen product.

Check on Mom builds on Videra’s experience applying its multimodal AI platform in high-stakes mental health settings. Earlier this year, the company partnered with North South Consulting Group to help prevent suicide among U.S. service members—a program that demonstrated the platform’s ability to detect subtle risks and expand access to care in populations that might otherwise be overlooked. By bringing the same technology to maternal health, Videra is continuing its mission to surface conditions that often go undetected and provide earlier, more effective pathways to support.
