Salt Lake City and Philadelphia – October 16, 2025

Tendo is making waves in healthcare, and TIME just noticed. The company’s MDsave Marketplace has been recognized by TIME and Statista as one of the World’s Top HealthTech companies for 2025, reflecting its growing influence on healthcare delivery and affordability.

In a recent conversation with TechBuzz, Tendo's CEO Jen Goldsmith shared her thoughts about the recognition, “We are thrilled to be acknowledged by TIME. This recognition validates our mission to make healthcare more accessible, transparent, and affordable, while also streamlining operations for providers nationwide.”

Tendo’s TIME recognition – its inaugural list in this category – is particularly notable because it was data-driven, not a marketing exercise. Goldsmith notes, “TIME and Statista looked at platform usage, growth, and patient satisfaction. There was no application process; they simply analyzed ecosystem data globally and identified top-performing companies.”

This underscores the real-world impact of Tendo’s marketplaces. “It’s exciting because it’s authentic validation. People are struggling to access affordable, high-quality care, and we are helping make that possible,” Goldsmith said.

Tendo was founded in 2020 by siblings Dan and Jen Goldsmith, both of whom have extensive experience in life sciences and education, as noted by TechBuzz in 2021. The company was established with the mission to improve the lives of patients and providers by addressing the fragmentation in the healthcare experience. Tendo's headquarters is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with additional hubs in Salt Lake City, San Francisco, Chicago, San Diego, and Nashville.

The Goldsmiths embarked on the Tendo mission after conducting an extensive nationwide "listening tour" to understand the intricacies of the healthcare ecosystem. Their goal was to create a technology platform that enhances patient experiences, simplifies clinician workflows, and drives better health and financial outcomes for providers.

Since its founding, Tendo has grown to become a significant player in the healthtech industry, known for both its provider quality AI and analytics platform, Insights,  as well as its two-sided healthcare marketplace connecting patients, providers, employers, and navigators. The marketplace targets uninsured or underinsured patients as well as self-insured employers, helping them access care at lower costs without compromising quality.

In September 2023, Tendo announced its acquisition of MDsave, a Brentwood, Tennessee-based healthcare marketplace, in a strategic move to enhance its platform's capabilities. While Tendo has not publicly disclosed the financial details of the deal, industry reports estimate the acquisition at approximately $150 million. The acquisition integrated MDsave's transparent, shoppable healthcare services into Tendo's ecosystem, expanding its provider network to over 7,000 hospitals, Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), and clinics across 46 states, offering more than 2,000 procedures at bundled, upfront prices. The combined platform empowers patients to search, schedule, and pay for care seamlessly, while providing employers and navigators with tools to manage healthcare costs effectively.

MDsave started more than a decade ago to connect providers with consumers in a way that reduces administrative burdens and guarantees prompt payment to providers,” Goldsmith explains. “Patients get the procedures they need at substantially reduced costs, and providers get paid faster, without the delays sometimes caused by pre-approvals and heavy adjudication processes.”

As the public-facing component of Tendo’s Marketplace, MDsave allows patients to search, compare, and purchase medical services at transparent prices upfront. Its offerings span basic imaging and lab work to complex procedures such as orthopedic surgeries, maternity care, and even organ transplants, with the list of procedures continually expanding, and even includes heart transplants. Goldsmith noted, “We have one of the largest provider networks in the country, covering urban and rural areas alike. Patients regularly tell us that without MDsave, they wouldn’t have been able to afford a procedure.”

The platform also gives providers access to new patient populations. “Providers see the value immediately. They gain new patients while eliminating administrative friction, so they can focus on care rather than collections,” Goldsmith said.

Care Connect: Private Marketplace for Employers and Navigators

Tendo’s Care Connect is a private marketplace designed for self-insured employers and the navigators managing their healthcare plans. Unlike MDsave, Care Connect is organization-facing, enabling navigators and their employers to control costs while ensuring high-quality care.

Goldsmith explained, “Care Connect combines provider networks, AI-driven analytics, and administrative efficiency to make healthcare selection seamless for navigators and employers. Patients still benefit from transparency and affordability, but organizations can manage their plans more effectively.”

The platform measures quality at both the provider and the procedure level and calculates cost-effectiveness and potential savings, helping employers and navigators optimize the services offered to employees or members. By connecting nationwide networks of providers with organizations, Care Connect also reduces friction for healthcare systems and expands access for patients.

Growth, AI, and the Future

Tendo is expanding its team and AI capabilities to enhance both MDsave and Care Connect. Goldsmith mentioned, “We are hiring across product, engineering, data analytics, sales, and services to support AI-driven insights that calculate provider quality and procedure-level cost savings.”

The company continues to grow nationally, signing more navigators for Care Connect and expanding MDsave’s provider network. Goldsmith added, “It’s remarkable that in today’s healthcare system, we can reduce costs, increase access, and simplify operations at the same time. It almost defies the basic laws of healthcare physics.”

With transparent pricing, broad access, and operational efficiency, Tendo is building a scalable model for the future of healthcare. TIME’s recognition is a milestone — but for Goldsmith, it’s also a reminder of the real lives impacted by the platform every day.
