The Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation has announced a commitment to contribute $22 million to Salt Lake City’s Ballpark NEXT fund.

The Miller family is leading a community-wide $100 million fundraising initiative to provide a historic investment into the Ballpark Neighborhood, and this pledge launches the fundraising effort.

“The Miller family and the Larry H. Miller Company have a deep history with and confidence in Salt Lake City and are committed to Ballpark NEXT and the bright future of our Capital City,” said Don Stirling, executive director of the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation. “We invite all to join us in the exciting and energizing Ballpark NEXT project to help raise $100 million to support human-centered, place-based development and enrichment in the area.”

In January 2023, the Larry H. Miller Company announced a new, privately funded ballpark for the Salt Lake Bees in Downtown Daybreak located in South Jordan, UT. Ballpark NEXT was launched to reimagine and revitalize the Ballpark Neighborhood adjacent to the proposed ballpark.

In March of 2023, several community members, students, and professional planners responded to a design competition, with $30,000 in prize money available to reimagine the five acre ballpark neighborhood. Nine finalists's plans were selected. Winners were announced in late May. For example, Utah State University landscape architecture students Tate Barney, Logan Hall and Owen Huff won in the student category (shown above).

“I’m so grateful for the Miller family’s continued investment in and philanthropic dollars for the Ballpark neighborhood,” said Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall. “Positive momentum and generational opportunities are arising from our intentional action and strength in partnership. We gathered hundreds of comments from neighbors and stakeholders that informed strong guiding principles, which will serve as the backbone of our land use strategies. This collaborative public-private partnership will truly lift the entire community.”
